World League of Chess Tournaments > INTERVIEW >Interview with tournament director, President of Abkhazian Chess Federation Mr.Konstantin TuzhbaDate: 15/08/2007Interview of GM Konstantin Chernyshov (obesrever of "Pravda" - newspaper of Communist Party of Russia) with tournament director, President of Abkhazian Chess Federation Mr.Konstantin Tuzhba. 15 years ago, caused by the collapse of the Soviet Union, one of the bloody dramas had played – the interethnik conflict in the territory of Abkhazia. Sad events of those years not only took away thousands of lives, but in one moment turned amazing blooming area into the territory ruined by war. But thanks to the courage of people and their leaders, the territory turns back into the country, rises, revives from ashes. One of the attributes of the returning peaceful life became chess festival, which collected sportsmen fourth time on the coast of the Black sea in Sukhumi.Soul of this tournament became Konstantin Andreevich Tuzhba – Abkhazia chess federation president and chess school director. He kindly agreed to answer questions of Your correspondent. -What are the aims and purposes of the festival? -The first and main: to show the world, that peaceful life has returned to our area. This is not only a sport festival for us, but also an important political action. We would like our tournament to become a large event not only in the territory of CIS, but also in the world calender. Second: surely chess popularization in Abkhazia. We should do everything possible for intellectual education of our youth. -How difficult it was for You to organize festival of such level? -Any serious business requires much work.But I was not confused by difficulties as we feel support of our government. Besides I have wide experiense of organizational work as I was Minister of Economic Affairs and Chief of the Government Staff. You see that to held tournament, Drama Theatre building was allotted. We have provided good game conditions for every participant – a separate table, good chess set and clock. We will work to ensure the competition become even better. By the way, I would like to invite everyone to the 5th festival, which will take place from 1st to 12 August 2008 in Sukhum. -Are You confused with such an influx of willing to play in the tournament? 320 participants. -It is very good for the tournament, which takes place for the fourth time! We are very glad to everyone who comes to us! It's a tradition of our city a very good attitude to guests. A guest brings happiness to the house. As You can see on the emblem of our festival Abkhazia 2007 there is word APSNI. This is an ancient name of Abkhazia that is translated as THE COUNTRY OF SOUL. Our sea, our sun, southern fruit and wonderful wine – all for our visitors! -What would You wish to the readers of „Pravda“? -First of all, health to you and your relatives, peace and goodness! I'm a long-term reader of „Pravda“. By the way, my daughter worked in the newspaper. In general we are very grateful to communists of Russia for support of our Republic. Festival is finished! 12 August, 15:00, solemn closing of the 4th international chess festival „ABKHAZIA OPEN“ „SUKHUM-2007“ took place. Vice-premier of the RA Government A.Stranitchkin has congratulated participants of the festival on successful tournament completion. Participants of the tournament have expressed gratitude to it's organizers: Sukhum city Administration, State Sports Committee RA, Chess Federation of Abkhazia. The biggest wish from participants is that the tournament continue to be annual and traditional. Already today start to come applications for the festival „ABKHAZIA OPEN“ 2008 – this is celebration for all chess players of CIS. This year festival have accepted a record number of participants – 322 persons. Prize-winners of the tournament became: 1 st place – Master of Sport RF – Nikolai Luschnikov (Tchelzabinsk) 2nd place – International Master – Nikolai Kabanov (Surgut) 3rd place – International Grand Master – Alexander Lastin (Zheleznovodsk) Among the Abkhazian chess players the best result was shown by Timur Lekerbaya – 5.5 points from 9 possible points, second place – Artem Tabaryan. All the participants emphasized the increased skills of the Abkhazian chess players. |
